WHAT WE

PUBLISH

We are interested in adult fiction in English, set in any African country, short stories, novellas, children’s books, field guides and other African natural history works, non-fiction such as biography and history, and culinary works.

Distribution of published titles will initially be confined to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia and Australia. Titles that succeed in these markets will be presented at the London and Frankfurt book fairs in the hope of securing agreements with larger publishers for a wider distribution and possible translations. Although we prefer agented submissions, we are open to direct contact with authors, provided they adhere to our submission guidelines.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Submit a query letter of not more than one page. Please attach a synopsis of about 300 words, and the first three chapters of your book.  Do not send random chapters.

Please do not submit a complete manuscript, unless this is requested by our editorial team. Let us know if your manuscript is currently under consideration by other publishers.

Please do not submit photographs, illustrations or artwork via email, unless requested.

In keeping with our environmentally aware ethos, we do not accept hardcopy submissions. Please do not send these as we are unable to return them and they will be recycled.

We normally respond within 6 – 8 weeks; however, the process may sometimes take longer. Please do not call to check on the status of your submission. Email is the best way to make enquiries. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to give feedback on work that we have chosen not to publish.
